Elise Hearst - Playwright
For the children and grandchildren of refugees, life in Australia can be very confusing. There is an abundance of privilege and comfort. But bubbling in the background are stories of tragedy and loss.

Melbourne playwrite Elise Hearst, whose family escaped to Australia as Europe became engulfed in the horrors of the Second World War, reflects on how she makes sense of this disconnect through theatre. She talks of writing about Jewish themes for a wider audience, and how this process brings new insights into her understanding of herself and her own background.

And of course, we chat about motherhood, gender and art!
